Avenira’s mining management plan has been approved by the Northern Territory Government, authorising mining to proceed at the Wonarah phosphate project.
Located 300km east of Tennant Creek, the Wonarah project will at first create 25 jobs before increasing to 50 during the direct shipping to ore program.
The first exports are expected to supply Avenira’s lithium ferro phosphate project at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct.
The Northern Territory Minister for Mining and Industry Nicole Manison said the news was “huge” and “a big win for jobs”.
“The Wonarah phosphate project further cements the Territory’s reputation as a globally significant hub for resources and critical minerals,” Manison said.
“We have the resources the world needs to transition to net-zero emissions and green energy and we support the projects that make this happen.”
Avenira’s mining agreement with the Arruwarru Aboriginal Corporation, signed in July of this year, will see the company create pathways to sustainable commercial outcomes and social benefits.
The agreement is also expected to help Avenira and Arruwurra’s members build their relationship.
“This is a crucial step in delivering our mining project, which will provide feedstock for our proposed LFP cathode production plant,” Avenira director Brett Clark said.
“We are delighted the Northern Territory Government has approved our mining management plan.
“Completing this project will see Darwin become a key supplier of critical materials to the global battery market.”
