A golden quarter for Capricorn Metals

Capricorn, Karlawinda gold project

Capricorn Metals has released an exploration update for the September 2023 quarter.

At the Mount Gibson gold project in the Murchison region of Western Australia, 12,386 metres of reverse circulation (RC) resource definition and extensional drilling has been completed.

The WA gold miner said that exploration activities at Mount Gibson during the quarter focused on progressing extensional and infill resource drilling that originally started in January 2022.

The program’s results during the quarter were described as “exceptional”, with assays being received from 107 drillholes (18,242m) since Capricorn’s last quarterly exploration update.

Follow-up RC drilling had identified the Comanche prospect, which is located east of the main Mount Gibson trend. Capricorn said the results, such as 12m at 3.73 grams per tonne (g/t) from 94m and 2m at 5.00g/t from 136m, were encouraging.

The company also carried out drilling on unmined areas at Lexington, Saratoga and Orion North, also located east of the main Mount Gibson trend. Capricorn said the drilling continues to define zones of high-grade mineralisation within and outside the resource shell.

An updated mineral resource and ore reserve estimates for Mount Gibson is expected to be announced in the December 2023 quarter.

At the Karlawinda gold project in the Pilbara region of WA, 55 RC holes (8415m) and 19 aircore (AC) holes (2065m) were completed at the Vedas and Belhaven prospects.

Both targeted gold and geophysical trends along the east of the Berwick and Muirfield deposits within the Karlawinda east project area. The results from both programs are currently pending.

However, results were received from a 25-hole (5454m) infill and extensional RC drilling program completed during the June 2023 quarter over the Berwick and Vedas prospects. It returned results such as 7m at 1.89g/t from 130m.

“Recent exploration success within the Karlawinda east project area and its proximity to the existing operations indicates the high prospectivity for the area to host further near surface satellite resources as well as major gold discoveries,” the company said.
