Whitehaven’s annual Safehaven Conference was held on October 10 and represented the biggest turnout in the event’s nine-year history.
The conference saw over 250 people attend to discuss safety, leadership and mental fitness.
“The success of a conference hinges on year-long event planning and the active engagement and contributions of attendees on the day, and this year’s participants exceeded our expectations,” Whitehaven executive general manager health, safety and environment Sarah Withell said.
This year, a key participant was Gus Worland who conducted a talk about mental fitness. Worland spoke about suicide and offered practical ways to strengthen mental health.
Whitehaven also highlighted the company’s successes and challenges while reinforcing its strategic focus of alignment and consistency.
Leadership was also a significant focus, with Whitehaven bringing in Rachael Robertson to share real-life examples of how people can lead without a title.
The Whitehaven board and executive leadership team were involved in the conference through to the end, with managing director and chief executive officer Paul Flynn, executive general manager operations Ian Humphris speaking alongside Withell.
“The Whitehaven Safehaven Conference serves as a crucial platform for bringing together leaders and experts in health, safety and environmental leadership,” Withell said.
“It underscores the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange to drive positive change within our industry. We look forward to another great event in 2024.”
