Widgie 3 unlocks potential

Widgie Nickel has released assay results from its recent diamond drilling (DD) infill program that targeted the Widgie 3 nickel mineralisation system.

The Widgie 3 deposit is part of the Widgie South project, which is part of Widgie Nickel’s Mt Edwards project located 75km south of Kalgoorlie and 40km south west of Kambalda in Western Australia. It has a significant nickel endowment of 71,800 tonnes.

Notable significant nickel intercepts from the recent DD program include:

  • 23MERCD073 15.47 metres (m) at 3.17 per cent nickel (Ni), 0.27 per cent copper (Cu), 0.04 per cent cobalt (Co), 1.51 grams per tonne (g/t) 3 platinum group elements (PGE) from 301.00m including 6.81m at 5.92 per cent Ni, 0.50 per cent Cu, 0.07 per cent Co, 2.58g/t 3PGE from 309.66m
  • 23MERCD079 27.70m at 1.26 per cent Ni, 0.11 per cent Cu, 0.02 per cent Co, 0.50g/t 3PGE from 379.00m including 2.39m at 6.56 per cent Ni, 0.68 per cent Cu, 0.09 per cent Co, 2.12g/t 3PGE from 404.29m
  • 23MERCD080 7.74m per cent 2.94 per cent Ni, 0.28 per cent Cu, 0.04 per cent Co, 1.24g/t 3PGE from 369.26m including 5.75m at 3.76 per cent Ni, 0.36 per cent Cu, 0.05 per cent Co, 1.52g/t 3PGE from 369.70m

“These exceptional results from Widgie 3 resource definition drilling continue to point towards a robust Widgie 3 resource upgrade and in turn more favourable underlying economics,” Widgie Nickel managing director Steve Norregaard said.

“Considering the deepest drilling in this phase confirms mineralisation to only a very shallow 300m below surface, we can look forward to the upcoming Widgie 3 resource update with further resource growth if warranted on the horizon.

“This all feeds into our plan to incorporate the Widgie South deposits into a scoping study with the aim of becoming a major sulphide nickel producer.”

The results are expected to be incorporated into the updated Widgie 3 mineral resource estimate that is due to commence in October.
