Swift will design and install the network infrastructure for Iluka’s Eneabba village.
Iluka’s Eneabba site received significant press coverage in early 2022 after securing a $1.25 billion non-recourse loan from the Australian Government’s Critical Minerals Facility to develop Australia’s first integrated rare earth refinery in Western Australia.
The decision was based on the site’s potential to strengthen Australia’s position as a trusted supplier of critical minerals and create regional jobs crucial for the new energy economy.
Following a tender process, OTOC was awarded the contract to build a new 300-person village due to open in the third quarter of 2023. The agreement included designing and installing network infrastructure to support the delivery of communication and entertainment services across the village to accommodate Iluka’s on-site team.
Subsequently, OTOC selected Swift for the supply of the village entertainment services, which includes designing and installing a GPON and wireless active network and the installation of Swift’s proprietary entertainment and engagement platform.
Swift’s in-house engineering team will leverage their extensive knowledge and expertise within the mining and resources sector to ensure the infrastructure design supports both the delivery of a reliable and stable network to support onsite services for those living on-site during the first phase of the mine opening and that the design is a scalable and future-proofed solution.
“We are excited about our new partnership with OTOC and to be involved in a new project literally from the ground up,” Swift chief executive officer Brian Mangano said.
“Being able to leverage the knowledge and expertise of our in- house engineering team and integrating the benefit of actual data and insights into the realities of working villages in remote locations across other villages from our customer support team service enables us to deliver the best possible solution for our customers from day one.”
OTOC managing director Mark Bertoli said the company was pleased to partner with Swift on Iluka’s Eneabba Village.
“Swift’s reputation for delivering high-quality ICT infrastructure across design, project management, and installation may have opened the door to our discussions,” he said.
“However, their knowledge and expertise were apparent from all our discussions with the team, from our first meeting to when we decided they were the best partner for this project and our company.”
