AVZ Minerals has appointed Dr Casta Tungaraza and Serge Ngandu as new board directors.

Tungaraza will begin her tenure on the board as an independent non-executive director on September 25. She brings with her over 40 years of industry experience, managing projects in both Australia and Africa.

“Dr Tungaraza’s appointment further strengthens AVZ’s expertise in delivering projects in Africa and brings established trusted high-level relationships with governments and major industry leaders across the continent,” AVZ said in a statement announcing the appointments.

“In 2012, she was inducted in the Western Australia Women’s Hall of Fame. Previously, Dr Tungaraza was a director and co-founder of the East Africa Oil and Gas company promoting and facilitating Australia’s investment in Africa.”

Ngandu will also begin his role as executive director on September 25. He also brings over 40 years of experience to the role, and is currently the director for corporate affairs for Dathcom Mining SA.

“Mr Ngandu’s appointment brings deep in-country relationships and irreplaceable experience at board level for the Manono lithium and Tin project that will be critical to progressing the project,” AVZ said.

“The board welcomes Dr Tungaraza and Mr Ngandu to the board of directors and believes the company is now better equipped with a diversified skillset to start development of its long awaited Manono Lithium and Tin project.
