BHP supports WA youth

BHP has renewed its partnership with the West Coast Eagles football team to support regional youth in Western Australia.

The partnership will carry on for an additional three years and will aim to improve social outcomes for the Pilbara and Goldfields regions through the extension of BHP’s youth engagement program, and will promote the importance of education and healthy lifestyles across WA by engaging with children and young people.

Over the past two years, the football team has had more than 28,000 project engagements in the WA regions through the major miner’s support.

BHP head of corporate affairs Western Australia Meath Hammond said the partnership renewal demonstrates the success of the partnership.

“For nearly two decades, we’ve been proud to partner with the Eagles, working together to improve female and Indigenous participation, youth engagement, and mental health outcomes in our regional and remote communities,” Hammond said.

“It has been fantastic to see the programs we support inspire and empower so many young West Australians over the years, and we look forward to seeing more great players of the future coming from the Pilbara and Goldfields regions.”

West Coast Eagles general manager of community and game development Richard O’Connell said the team is proud to stand alongside BHP in creating a difference to young West Australians.

“The longevity of this relationship has been due to shared values and the aspiration of improving the lives of as many young people as possible,” O’Connell said.

“We are incredibly proud of the work that BHP and the West Coast Eagles are doing together to strengthen communities and inspire others to join the challenge.”
