Spoilbank Marina project surges ahead

The BHP-funded Spoilbank Marina project in WA has reached another milestone, entering its final stage of construction.

Located in Port Hedland, the Spoilbank Marina project is aimed at alleviating the demand on existing boar launching facilities while improving access and safety for recreational boat users.

The project has begun its largest package to date, including the construction of marina roads, car and trailer parking and landscaping. This stage also encompasses car and trailer parking, public amenities, barbecue areas and more utilities and services.

The $187.5 million project is funded by the Western Australian Government, town of Port Hedland, and BHP.

“The Spoilbank Marina has long been a dream for the Hedland community, and it is fantastic to see this transformational project come to life,” WA Premier Roger Cook said.

“This final stage of construction will deliver a vibrant and culturally rich community amenity for locals and visitors to enjoy, ensuring the entire community benefits from the development of the marina precinct.”

Ports Minister David Michael said the project will help Port Hedland continue to be a community of choice for people to live and work.

“Local businesses and contractors are very much involved in transforming the Port Hedland waterfront through this project, which will create an attractive place for the community and visitors to gather and relax,” he said.

Pilbara Member of the Legislative Assembly Kevin Michel said the project is a long-held aspiration of the Port Hedland community.

“This final stage of construction will offer more chances for local businesses and contractors to participate in the project,” Michel said.
