WA Government invests in mineral exploration

The Western Australian Government has announced that applications for round 28 of the Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) co-funded drilling program and series 6 of the Energy Analysis Program (EAP) are open.

The Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) is an initiative created by the WA Government in April 2009 which aims to encourage exploration in the State for the long-term sustainability of its resources sector.

Its co-funded drilling round follows the State Budget 2023-24 funding increase of $1 million per year. A total of $7 million is now available across the two application rounds each year.

The EAP is a program under the EIS initiative designed for petroleum and geothermal companies. The program aims to make funding accessible for analysing existing state resources to better understand petroleum and geothermal systems.

“Mineral exploration is one of Western Australia’s most important sectors, which is why the State Government will continue to support companies with the backing they deserve,” Minister for Mines and Petroleum Bill Johnston said.

“It’s especially pleasing to see successful EIS applicants uncover the critical minerals needed to support our national and global decarbonisation efforts.”

The WA Government announced the successful applicants for round 27 of the EIS in April.

The applications for round 28 of the EIS and series 6 of the EAP close September 1 at 4pm.
