Contract service provider NRW Holdings has announced that its subsidiary has been awarded a non-process infrastructure (NPI) contract by major miner Rio Tinto.

Primero, NRW Holdings’ wholly owned subsidiary, has been awarded the NPI contract by Rio Tinto to deliver works for the Western Range iron ore project located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Primero is an engineering group that specialises in the design, construction, and operation of global resource projects.

Under the contract from Rio Tinto, Primero will be responsible for the design, supply, construction, and commissioning of the non-process infrastructure facilities on site.

This includes the refuelling facility, mobile equipment maintenance facility, primary crusher maintenance facility, washdown facilities, wastewater treatment plant and water infrastructure.

The contract is scheduled to run for approximately twelve months beginning in April 2023, and is worth approximately $54 million.

NRW Holdings’ managing director Jules Pemberton said that this is an exciting opportunity for the company.

“We continue to reinforce our long-term relationship with Rio Tinto through the delivery of world-class, non-process infrastructure, design and construction performed in-house by Primero,” Pemberton said.

The news comes after NRW successfully acquired OFI Group, an engineering company, in March 2023.

OFI Group specialises in industrial electrical engineering, automation, switchboard design and manufacture, instrumentation, design and construction within the mining and resources sector, as well as government and defence, fuels and explosives, to name a few.
